MINI Remastered, un clásico devuelto a la vida por David Brown

El David Brown Speedback GT se trata de un deportivo artesanal que toma como base al Jaguar XKR Coupé, pero adoptando un aspecto mucho más clásico y con aires de Aston Martin DB5. Ahora el pequeño fabricante británico, David Brown Automotive, vuelve a la carga con el MINI Remastered. Como su propio nombre indica, este modelo se trata de una interpretación moderna del MINI original, que fue diseñado por Alec Issigonis.

Por fuera se quiere mantener la esencia del clásico con los faros circulares o las pequeñas llantas, pero lo cierto es que todos los paneles de la carrocería son nuevos. Se suaviza su silueta ligeramente y se añaden detalles modernos como la nueva parrilla de aluminio, los espejos retrovisores o los pilotos traseros LED; elementos inspirados también en el Speedback GT. Del mismo modo el chasis ha sido reforzado para mejorar la rigidez del original.

En el interior es probablemente donde más se nota la mano de David Brown Automotive. Se combina la estética retro con algunas tecnologías actuales como un sistema multimedia con pantalla táctil de 7 pulgadas con conectividad con Apple CarPlay y Android Auto. También cuenta con cuatro altavoces, puerto USB y sistema de arranque sin llave. Por suerte los asientos de cuero y el volante de madera sí que respetan el diseño original.

También lo hace el motor, pues bajo el capó encontraremos el mismo bloque de cuatro cilindros y 1.275 centímetros cúbicos. La marca dice que el MINI Remastered tendrá alrededor de un 50% más de potencia que el original. Mantiene la caja de cambios de cuatro velocidades, pero reacondicionada, al igual que los frenos y las suspensiones. Cada uno de estos ejemplares será hecho a mano y se tarda en completarlo unas 1.000 horas/hombre. El precio podría rondar las 50.000 libras, unos 58.500 euros al cambio.

On the outside you want to maintain the essence of the classic with circular headlights or small tires, but the truth is that all the body panels are new. Inside is probably where most notice the hand of David Brown Automotive. It combines retro aesthetics with some current technologies such as a multimedia system with 7-inch touch screen with connectivity with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. It also has four speakers, USB port and keyless start system. Luckily the leather seats and the wooden steering wheel do respect the original design.

So does the engine, because under the hood we find the same block of four cylinders and 1,275 cubic centimeters. The brand says that the MINI Remastered will have about 50% more power than the original. It maintains the gearbox of four speeds, but reconditioned, like the brakes and the suspensions. Each of these specimens will be made by hand and takes about 1000 hours / man. The price could be around 50,000 pounds, about 58,500 euros to change.
