Las cámaras de la DGT vigilan si usas el cinturón de seguridad

La Dirección General de Tráfico ha puesto hoy en funcionamiento 225 cámaras que controlarán el uso del cinturón de seguridad. Durante los dos primeros meses se enviará una carta informativa a los conductores que no lleven puesto el dispositivo de seguridad, y después comenzarán a llegar denuncias por la infracción.

Estos dispositivos están colocados en pórticos y postes y complementan la vigilancia que hacen los agentes de la Guardia Civil a pie de carretera con el fin de que se consiga reducir el número de fallecidos y heridos por no llevar el cinturón de seguridad. El 60 % de las cámaras están ubicadas en vías que registran mayor siniestralidad y accidentalidad y el 40 % se encuentran en vías de alta ocupación.

El director general de Tráfico, Gregorio Serrano, ha declarado: “hemos decidido no sancionar, sino empezar por concienciar ya que no es intención de la DGT recaudar si no salvar vidas. La idea es que los ciudadanos conozcan que ya disponemos de estos instrumentos y que conozcan donde están ubicadas, ya que su localización está publicada en la web de la DGT”.

Durante los dos primeros meses, no habrá procedimiento sancionador pero se adjuntará la prueba de la infracción con el objetivo de que los conductores conozcan la necesidad de utilizar el cinturón de seguridad. Una vez finalizada esa etapa informativa, se dará paso a la fase de denuncia de la infracción, y aquellos conductores que sean captados por las cámaras sin llevar debidamente abrochado el cinturón de seguridad, recibirán el boletín de denuncia correspondiente: 200 € y la retirada de 3 puntos del carnet.

En 2015, hasta 178 fallecidos no utilizaron el cinturón de seguridad. Según Gregorio Serrano, estas cifras “llaman a la reflexión y a la responsabilidad de concienciar al resto de ocupantes para que hagan uso del seguro de vida más importante y más barato que tenemos cuando viajamos en coche”.
