-------------------------------------
Volvo wants to continue to "mess up" with high-performance models, as it did before with its R range, even in this same S60, but of previous generation. Today, in 2017, it shows its new "pure blood", the S60 Polestar, a sports sedan that inherits several elements of the World Touring Car Championship (WTCC) races, where the Swedish company participates years ago. It should be noted that Volvo Cars acquired 100% of Polestar in 2015. The two main business areas are cars and accessories, which will be expanded and will continue to be closely linked to engine programs in terms of technical development.
We will have it in Chile with a single price of USD $ 54,900, in a niche market with models such as the Audi RS4 and BMW M3. Compared to sales expectations, they estimate a volume close to 30 annual units and executives of DITEC Automobiles pointed out that the Polestar V60 version is currently being studied.
The new S60 Polestar was developed with more than 20 years experience in the race tracks. Under this premise, it is important to highlight the great power of this car: it incorporates a factory 367 horsepower in a small and efficient new generation T6 engine called Drive-E engines, ie a 2.0L turbo four-cylinder in-line (and A new generation Geatronic gearbox with eight gears) that can accelerate from 0 to 100 km / h in just 4.7 seconds.
POLESTAR FOR OTHER MODELS
It is important to note that different models of the Volvo range can install the Polestar software only in compatible engines, with a price of CLP $ 669,900. This software maintains the original consumption of the vehicle and incorporates variations in power and torque also increasing Newton meters (Nm).
The variations provided by the Polestar software for the MY 2017 models of the brand, allow the V40 D3 to increase from 150 hp to 177 hp, while its torque increases from 350 Nm to 400 Nm. Also, the S60 T5 reaches 253 hp compared to the 245 it originally brings and 400 Nm instead of the 350 Nm that your engine brings from the factory. Volvo's high-end models can also incorporate this system where the new XC90 T6 achieves the 334 hp and 440 Nm, a variation at 320 hp and 400 Nm that initially incorporates, while the S90 D5 has 500 Nm in comparison to the 480 Nm that comes from factory.
ANOTHER SPORTS PRESENCE
The exterior of this new model differs from the R-Design version as it integrates black components in the front bumper cover, black grille with the Polestar badge with chrome frame, mirror covers and mounts with glossy black finish, Spoiler in trunk lid, double escapes of 20 mm, among other details.
Another new feature that includes this new S60 Polestar are the 20 "light-rim aluminum rims with the Polestar logo and a 19" alternative that allows the use of winter tires. While inside, it sports black nubuck sports seats with blue stitching and the Polestar embossed logo insert on the backrests, carbon fiber panel in the center console, sports pedals and footrests, sports steering wheel with nubuck insert, blue seams , Pallets of change and heating, besides the solar roof as optional.
BRAKES AND SUSPENSION
An important part of the development of this new S60 Polestar is the evolution of its chassis, a framework that was put to the test on Germany's fast freeways, the winding roads of Spain and the arctic cold of northern Sweden. Road stability and feel have been enhanced with a stiffer suspension with Öhlins adjustable dampers, a thicker stabilizer bar and rigid rear shock absorbers to provide better handling at high speeds.
On the other hand, the brakes also undergo modifications to adapt them to the greater power of the engine. In the forefront, this new model incorporates floating discs for a lower weight and a better thermal dissipation that are less affected by the heat exchange.
