Mercedes-Maybach Pullman Guard, fortaleza sobre ruedas

Los de Daimler tenían tres estrellas en el Salón de París: El Clase E All-Terrain, el AMG GT Roadster y el prototipo Generation EQ, que veremos como modelo de producción dentro de unos años. Para escoltarlos, un auténtico carro blindado, el Mercedes-Maybach Pullman Guard, una creación del departamento especializado en vehículos blindados de la marca que será uno de los coches más buscados entre quienes teman por su seguridad… y puedan pagar los 1,4 millones de euros que cuesta.

Eso es el triple de lo que cuesta el fabuloso Mercedes-Maybach Pullman, una auténtica limusina de lujo de 6,5 metros de longitud sobre la que se basa, una vez reforzada hasta los dientes. Desde las partes internas de la carrocería, con acero, kevlar y aramida hasta los cristales (láminas de vidrio, láminas de policarbonato y la luna trasera se ha sustituido directamente por una lámina de acero) para conseguir la calificación balística VR9. Esto significa que soporta sin despeinarse impactos de balas de rifles de asalto y detonaciones de hasta 15 kilos de TNT a menos de dos metros del vehículo.

Todos estos elementos elevan su peso notablemente, pues se eleva hasta 5,1 toneladas de peso, casi el doble del que pesa el coche del que deriva. No se nota en absoluto cuando lo ves a simple vista, pero esto significa que el 6.0 V12 Biturbo con 530 CV y 850 Nm de par debe limitar su velocidad máxima hasta los 160 km/h. No sabemos cuánto puede alcanzar con los neumáticos que Michelin ha desarrollado específicamente para el Mercedes-Maybach Pullman Guard, que pueden rodar una vez pinchados por si debe abandonarse el lugar del incidente con rapidez.

Las puertas son tan pesadas que han debido instalarse unos motores hidráulicos que ayudan a abrirlas y cerrarlas. Hasta los elevalunas son especiales… porque no todos son capaces de levantar esos pesados cristales.
